It starts at the beginning of each school year when we invite kindergartens, schools and other institutions from Slovenia and abroad to send us the artworks of their children, students and users.

Each year they can create pictures on two different topics; one is ‘Play with me’ and the other one is different each year.

The artworks are sent from all parts of Slovenia and also from abroad! Our team carefully examines them and with the help of Nina Popič, custos, we choose which artworks will be exhibited.

Who is a custos?

A custos is a person who is employed at a museum or at a gallery.

The chosen artworks are then exhibited at the art opening.

The 18th International Art Contest ‘Play with me’ 2024/25

We invite you to join us and participate by submitting your students’ artworks. This year we draw, paint, glue on two themes:

1. LOVE – Love is a universal value that transcends boundaries and connects people, communities, and cultures. It takes countless forms – it can be friendship, gentle affection, solidarity among people, compassion for those in need, or a force that moves the world and brings change. We are curious to see how you experience love: how you feel it at home, at school, among friends, in society, or in your relationship with nature. How does love reveal itself in the small moments of everyday life, and how can it help create a more beautiful, fair, and inclusive future for all?

Be creative, let your imagination flow, and show us your vision of love in your own unique way. We look forward to seeing each and every one of your artworks.

2. PLAY WITH ME – you can play with your parents, friends, grandma, grandpa, you can play with different toys, you can play at school, on the street, in kindergarten, on the lawn…The second theme is already a traditional one: play. Play is part of our everyday life and can happen in countless ways. You can play alone – with toys, on playgrounds, through music, dance, sports, or singing. You can also play with friends, classmates, siblings, parents, grandparents, teachers, caregivers, or even with your dog, cat, or other animals.

There’s room for play everywhere – on the playground, at home, in school or kindergarten, in the meadow, in the forest, or even on the street. Play can be quiet and imaginative, or lively, joyful, and loud. Sometimes play means creating, sometimes competing, and other times cooperating and making new friends.

Play teaches us to share, collaborate, trust, and stay curious. That’s why it has been one of the central themes of our contest for many years.
